Braces for Kids in Atlanta, GA

Are you looking for an Atlanta area orthodontist for your kids? At Patel & Womble Orthodontics, our board-certified orthodontists, Dr. Ruchir R. Patel and Dr. Brian A. Womble offer affordable braces for children in both of our McDonough and Norcross offices. Getting your child early access to care can prevent them from having complex bite problems in the future. We recommend that your child has an orthodontic evaluation by age seven.

Why Kids Need Braces

Does your child need braces? Having common problems such as gapped, crooked teeth or overbites can make your child more susceptible to problems, including:

If your son or daughter has bad tooth spacing from problems, such as thumb sucking or pacifier use, he or she may need braces to fix their bite and realign the teeth. If not corrected at a young age, their adult teeth may follow the patterns of their baby teeth and erupt out of alignment.

Even though crooked teeth may seem like a purely cosmetic issue, children with crooked bites (malocclusion) can suffer from long-term dental problems that last long into adulthood.

When Should My Child Get Braces?

It’s important to schedule your child’s first orthodontic consultation by age seven. At this age, Dr. Brian A. Womble or Dr. Ruchir R. Patel can assess the way the adult teeth are beginning to develop and erupt into place.

Losing a baby tooth too early can impact the way your child’s adult teeth erupt. Since baby (primary) teeth save space for adult teeth, children’s braces can fix problems that are caused by premature tooth loss. Catching these problems at an early age is very important and may prevent further complications.

The First Orthodontist Visit

The very first visit to Patel & Womble Orthodontics will be for a simple consultation with one of our board-certified orthodontists. During this visit, we will assess your child’s biting patterns, speech, swallowing, jaw anatomy, and facial profile.

Most of the time, we will also take a series of pictures and digital X-rays to fully assess the anatomy of your child’s developing bite. An impression of the teeth may also be ordered to recreate the way the upper and lower teeth bite together.

After the consultation, Dr. Patel or Dr. Womble will discuss which type of children’s braces is most appropriate for your child.

Types of Children’s Braces

We offer a variety of children’s braces and appliances at both our McDonough and Norcross orthodontic offices. Choose from options including:

Each one offers a fun, proactive way to help your child enjoy straighter teeth, greater confidence, and improved dental health.

How Long Will The Braces Stay On?

Braces for children can sometimes be done in phases or all at one time. Children’s smiles vary from one to the next, which can mean that one child only needs to wear braces for a year, while another must wear them for two or three years. During your consultation with our Atlanta orthodontists, we can let you know roughly how long it will take to straighten your child’s teeth.

If two phases are required, we use the first phase to prepare the jaws and primary tooth spacing to accommodate for the improved eruption of the adult teeth. Once the adult teeth erupt properly into space (or are adjusted as needed), we will move to a retainment phase to help your child’s teeth spacing patterns remain as they should be without unnecessary relapse.

Caring for Braces

It is very important to help your child take good care of their teeth when undergoing orthodontic treatment. Regular cleanings and checkups are essential. We may also recommend a home fluoride gel or rinse to prevent decay. Be sure to help your child brush twice a day for at least two minutes, above and below their brackets. Flossing with a floss threader or an interdental brush should also be done daily.

Avoid sticky or hard foods, as these could cause braces to break or pop off the teeth, causing pain and discomfort.

How Much Do Braces For Kids Cost in Atlanta?

Patel & Womble Orthodontics offers convenient dental financing plans so that you can make low monthly payments on your child’s braces. Their treatment may even be covered by your insurance so it is important to check your policy. Apply for CareCredit® for same-day approval and monthly payments. Investing in braces for your child can limit the extent and expense of treatment they need in the future.
