Metal Braces in Atlanta, GA

Traditional orthodontic therapy provides fast and comprehensive treatment for patients of all ages and smile needs. Over the years, conventional metal braces have become more comfortable to wear. At Patel & Womble Orthodontics, our board-certified orthodontists, Drs. Ruchir R. Patel and Brian A. Womble bring convenient and affordable braces to our patients in McDonough, Norcross, and the greater Atlanta area.

What Are Metal Braces?

When you wear metal braces, you can rest assured that they are made of the highest grade of surgical stainless steel. Each of the smooth brackets is bonded securely to your teeth. The thin wire held to the brackets by small rubber bands consistently guides the teeth into the proper alignment. You can even select various colors of bands from a visit to visit!

Benefits of Metal Braces

One of the biggest factors that influence our patients to choose metal braces is their affordability, followed by the fact that they can be used on just about any individual. Our Atlanta orthodontists are able to use metal braces to move your teeth faster than other types of treatments.

Parts of Braces

Having metal braces depends on a number of different parts that must all work together properly for tooth alignment to take place:

  • Brackets: These small square-shaped pieces of stainless steel are glued to individual teeth at a specific point to facilitate efficient movement.
  • Archwire: The thin stainless steel wire that is connected to each one of your brackets, placing mild pressure that guides the tooth in the proper direction.
  • Elastics/Rubber bands: Colored braces use small elastics that are anchored to the bracket, over the wire, and back to the bracket to hold everything together. They come in an assortment of colors.

What Is the Procedure for Braces?

After your initial orthodontic consultation, our Atlanta orthodontists will make a plan for your precise bracket placement. We have an on-site CBCT cone beam 3D X-ray to expedite the process and improve treatment results.

As each of the brackets is bonded to your teeth with special glue, they will guide the archwire across your entire smile. The teeth in the back will have a bracket that is more of a “loop” or “band” that encircles the entire tooth to anchor everything into place. After the wire is set, a rubber band is placed over it to hold it snuggly against each bracket. Every so often, the wire is changed out with a tighter version to facilitate tooth repositioning.

Occasionally, other orthodontic appliances, such as larger rubber bands, headgear, or Herbst® appliances may be needed. Patel & Womble Orthodontics will always walk you through the instructions at our McDonough and Norcross locations so that you know exactly how to care for everything.

How Braces Work

Your teeth are gently guided by the mild pressure that is placed on them by the specific archwire being worn. Dr. Patel or Dr. Womble may decide to use different archwires at various phases of progress, or even use tighter bands to close some areas more quickly.

Some types of self-ligating brackets have a “trap door” that opens and closes on the front. These hold the wire in place instead of having to use rubber bands. Many of our patients report that they are more comfortable, as these brackets allow the wire to “glide” more freely. Yet, they still provide reliable tooth movement. It’s a perfect option for many of our McDonough and Norcross patients.

Are Metal Braces Right for Me?

If you have minor to severe tooth misalignment, then traditional metal braces may be a great option for you. They’re not just for kids, as many of our McDonough and Norcross braces patients are also adults. With metal braces, our Atlanta area orthodontists can help you have straighter teeth in less time.

How Much Do Metal Braces Cost in Atlanta?

The actual price of your braces will depend on how complex your treatment needs are. In certain cases, your treatment may be covered by insurance. We can verify your benefits prior to starting treatment so that you have a good estimate of what your out-of-pocket expenses will be.

Patel & Womble Orthodontics offers in-office, 0% interest dental financing through CareCredit® for braces at both our McDonough and Norcross locations. It’s a great way to fit your treatment into your monthly budget. We also accept cash, checks, and all major credit cards.
