Clear Retainers in Atlanta, GA
If you live in Norcross or McDonough, the board-certified orthodontists at Patel & Womble Orthodontics near Atlanta make it easy for you to enjoy a straighter smile. After having your braces removed, you will need a retainer to help you keep them straight and prevent relapse. Dr. Ruchir R. Patel or Dr. Brian A. Womble may suggest the use of a clear orthodontic retainer. Clear retainers are removable and look similar to a clear alignment or whitening tray.
Invisible Retainers in the Atlanta Area
When you’re preparing to have your braces removed, Dr. Womble or Dr. Patel will help you decide which type of retainer will best suit your specific smile needs. For some of our patients, a clear retainer (such as an Essix or vacuum-formed tray) may be the ideal solution. Your new retainer will help to maintain the current positioning of your teeth after the braces have been removed. Clear retainers are unique in that they are fully molded to fit each part of your smile snuggly and comfortably with a firm, clear plastic.
Removable Dental Appliances
Similar to the other types of retainers, a clear retainer will prevent teeth movement or “relapse” into their former positions. A clear retainer looks quite similar to an Invisalign® alignment tray, but will not exert additional pressure on your teeth. It also provides many distinct advantages over other types of retainers, such as:
- Easily removable for meal time
- Makes brushing your teeth and flossing easier
- Cleaning the retainer is relatively simple
- Clear plastic makes it virtually unnoticeable
Caring for Your Clear Orthodontic Retainer
Since clear retainers are made from durable, molded plastic, it’s important to understand that hot surfaces, cleaning it with hot water and excessive heat exposure can deform or distort the shape of the retainer. This can render it useless. Always clean your retainer with lukewarm tap water and a soft toothbrush. For more instructions on how to care for your appliance, be sure to read our retainer instructions for how to properly care for and protect your investment.
If you have a history of grinding or clenching your teeth when you sleep, the extra biting forces may wear through the retainer. Talk to Dr. Patel and Dr. Womble about alternative retainer or splint options if this is a concern.
How Much Do Clear Retainers Cost in Atlanta?
Your retainer is included with the cost of your braces, but if you lose or break it, you may need to purchase a replacement. We can apply the cost of your retainer against your dental insurance if coverage allows. If you prefer to make payments on your retainer replacement, dental financing is available through CareCredit®.
